Chapter 7: The Descent into the Storm

The heavy chop of twin-rotor blades battered the roof of the town car, kicking up a blinding cloud of dust and loose gravel across the isolated cliffside clearing.

Viktor froze, his hand still hovering inside his jacket near the concealed shoulder holster.

He stared up through the tinted windshield as a massive black tactical helicopter hovered directly overhead, casting a blinding spotlight that illuminated the dark interior like a stage.

Through the howling wind, a high-powered bullhorn crackled to life from above.

“Viktor Lindqvist! Drop your weapon and step away from the vehicle with your hands visible!”

Viktor cursed violently in Swedish, his calm facade shattering instantly.

He lunged across the center console, grabbing Leah by the collar of her jacket with terrifying strength and pressing the cold barrel of a suppressed pistol against her temple.

"Don't move an inch, you stubborn bitch!" Viktor snarled, his voice cracking with sudden panic.

"Tell them to back off, or I’ll scatter your brains across this leather seat!"

Leah didn't flinch.

She looked directly into Viktor’s wild, frantic eyes, her pulse pounding in her ears but her mind remaining razor-sharp.

"You think a helicopter is the only thing waiting out here?" Leah asked calmly, her voice carrying a chilling certainty.

Before Viktor could process her words, the rear doors of the town car were violently ripped open from the outside.

A heavy tactical boot slammed down onto the interior floor.

Before Viktor could swing his pistol around, a massive flash-bang grenade was tossed into the front cabin with a sharp metallic clatter.

CRACK!

A blinding flash of white light and a deafening, concussive boom detonated inside the confined space.

Viktor screamed, dropping his weapon as his ears rang and his vision went completely white.

Strong hands grabbed him by the tactical vest, dragging him backward out of the car and slamming him hard against the gravel.

Leah shielded her face as cool air rushed into the car, clearing away the lingering smoke and sulfur.

She stepped out of the vehicle on the opposite side, adjusting her suit jacket as federal agents in full tactical gear pinned Viktor face-down into the dirt, slapping steel cuffs onto his wrists.

Agent Sarah Lin walked over, stepping past the struggling captive to check on Leah.

"Are you alright, Mrs. Vance?" Agent Lin asked, her tone professional yet laced with respect.

"Never better, Agent Lin," Leah replied smoothly, brushing a speck of ash off her sleeve.

She looked down at Viktor as he was hauled to his feet, blood trickling from a scratch on his cheek.

"You... you set me up," Viktor spat out, glaring at Leah with pure venom as the agents shoved him toward the waiting helicopter.

"You knew about the road from the start."

"My father taught me never to trust a chauffeur who didn't know how to change a tire," Leah replied coldly, turning her back on him as the wind whipped her dark hair across her face.

As the helicopter lifted off into the stormy sky, carrying Viktor away to federal custody, Leah thought the nightmare was finally over.

She pulled out her phone to call her legal team and finalize the total dismantlement of the syndicate.

Instead, her phone screen suddenly flickered, overriding all active apps.

A single, unnumbered text message appeared on the screen, accompanied by an audio attachment.

Leah tapped it open.

The message contained a live video feed from inside the maximum-security federal holding facility where Ryan was currently locked away.

On the screen, Ryan was sitting alone in his cell, laughing maniacally as a prison guard in full riot gear unlocked his door and handed him a key card.

The caption beneath the video read: “The game was never about money, Leah. It was about opening the vault.”

Leah froze in the freezing rain, her blood turning to ice as she realized the true conspiracy had only just begun.
