Chapter 1 — The Fall of an Empire

Nathan didn't come home until seventy-two hours later.

He returned with Camille on his arm, still laughing about a weekend spent on a private yacht.

The laughter vanished the moment the mansion gates opened.

The fountain had stopped flowing.

Luxury cars were gone.

The security guards who had greeted him every morning for years no longer saluted him.

Instead, two unfamiliar men waited beside the entrance.

"Mr. Brooks," one of them said politely. "You no longer own this property."

Nathan frowned.

"What nonsense is this?"

The man handed him a legal folder.

"Ownership was transferred yesterday."

Nathan barely glanced at the paperwork before shoving it aside.

"Call my wife."

"We already did."

"And?"

"Mrs. Evelyn Sterling instructed us not to grant you access."

His face darkened.

He stormed toward the front door.

The electronic lock rejected his fingerprint.

Again.

And again.

His access had been erased.

His phone suddenly vibrated.

One notification.

Then another.

Then dozens.

Every banking application displayed the same message.

ACCOUNT ACCESS REVOKED.

His company email disappeared.

His executive credentials expired.

Every corporate system rejected his password.

Nathan's confident smile slowly disappeared.

"No..."

He immediately called the company headquarters.

His assistant answered with a trembling voice.

"Mr. Brooks..."

"What's happening?"

"The investors held an emergency meeting."

"And?"

"You've been removed as CEO."

Silence.

"They said... the Board Chair voted unanimously."

Nathan's voice hardened.

"Who?"

The assistant hesitated.

"...Mrs. Evelyn Sterling."

Nathan's breathing stopped.

Meanwhile, twenty floors above the city, Evelyn watched the sunrise from Sterling Global Headquarters.

Board members stood as she entered.

No applause.

Only respect.

She took her seat at the head of the table.

"Begin the restructuring."

One director smiled.

"Project Eclipse is complete."

Nathan Brooks had just discovered the truth.

He had never built an empire.

He had merely been allowed to borrow one.
