Chapter 2 — The Family Finally Lost Everything

The footage spread across the internet within hours.

Every news station replayed the same horrifying clip.

A groom...

Planting evidence on his eight-year-old niece.

Then assaulting her in front of two hundred guests.

People demanded answers.

Preston's employer fired him before sunrise.

His new wife filed for an annulment three days later.

She admitted she had ignored years of warning signs because everyone insisted Preston was "the perfect man."

Then investigators uncovered something even worse.

The hotel's older security recordings revealed Preston had secretly staged several previous "missing item" incidents at family gatherings.

Every time...

Someone else had been blamed.

Every time...

He escaped because my parents defended him.

Police reopened those complaints.

The lies began collapsing one after another.

Meanwhile...

My parents arrived at the hospital carrying flowers.

My mother burst into tears.

"We didn't know."

My laugh surprised even me.

"You watched your son frame a child."

"You watched him hit her."

"And you still chose him."

"You knew exactly who he was."

Neither of them answered.

Because there was nothing left to say.

I quietly placed the flowers back into my mother's hands.

"You don't get to call yourself grandparents anymore."

Then I walked away.

This time...

I never looked back.
