Chapter 2: The Truth Comes Out

Doctors worked through the evening.

Noah was suffering from dehydration, low body temperature, and a stomach virus that had already begun before the birthday party.

"He wasn't pretending," the pediatrician explained.

"He was genuinely ill."

Emily burst into tears.

Michael simply lowered his head.

Hours later, Officer Daniel Brooks entered the waiting room.

"We've spoken with several parents who attended the party."

One by one, the story unfolded.

Multiple children admitted Noah had asked several times to call his dad.

Matthew quietly confessed that Noah had thrown up before the games even started.

Another parent remembered Sarah saying,

"He's just acting for attention."

Even security footage from Sarah's front porch showed Noah trying to leave the house before Sarah gently but firmly led him back inside.

Officer Brooks closed his notebook.

"This is becoming much more serious than poor judgment."

Across town, Sarah sat alone in her empty kitchen.

The balloons had already begun to deflate.
