Chapter 4: The Truth Adrian Never Knew

Hours later, Adrian sat alone inside the executive office he had occupied for more than a decade.

Security officers waited outside the door.

He stared at an old framed photograph sitting on the bookshelf.

The company's grand opening.

He stood proudly at the center.

Evelyn stood quietly in the back row.

He had barely noticed her that day.

Arthur entered carrying another folder.

"This one was left for you."

Inside was a handwritten letter.

Adrian immediately recognized the signature.

Evelyn's late father.

The founder.

"If my daughter ever decides you've mistaken stewardship for ownership, she has my permission to take everything back."

The letter was dated thirteen years earlier.

Long before Adrian became CEO.

Arthur looked at him.

"The founder admired your talent."

"But he feared your ambition."

Adrian closed his eyes.

Every promotion.

Every luxury.

Every decision.

It had all been built on borrowed authority.

Not ownership.

When he looked out the office window, movers were already removing his name from the executive floor.
