CHAPTER 4: A FAMILY FOUND

CHAPTER 4: A FAMILY FOUND

One year later, the hospital held a special ceremony.

Doctors.

Nurses.

Patients.

Everyone gathered in the pediatric wing.

A plaque had been installed beside the nurses' station.

It read:

"In honor of Ethan Carter, whose courage saved a child's life and reminded us that every person deserves to be seen."

The crowd applauded.

Ethan stood nervously beside Daniel and Emily.

No longer barefoot.

No longer hungry.

No longer alone.

When the chief physician invited him to speak, Ethan walked slowly to the microphone.

The room fell silent.

He looked at the plaque.

Then at the people around him.

"I thought I came here to save someone," he said.

His voice trembled slightly.

"But this hospital saved me too."

Many people wiped away tears.

Ethan smiled and looked toward Daniel and Emily.

His family.

The family he never expected to have.

That night, as they walked out of the hospital together, Emily slipped her hand into his.

"Ready to go home?" she asked.

Home.

For years, it had been a word that hurt.

Now it felt warm.

Ethan smiled.

"Yeah."

And for the first time in a very long time, he truly meant it.

The boy who had once lost everything had discovered something greater than a miracle.

He had found a family.

And sometimes, that is the greatest rescue of all.
