Chapter 2: The Secret the Older Woman Had Carried for Years

Outside the ballroom, the groom stood alone beneath the hotel entrance.

Rain had begun to fall.

The older woman quietly joined him.

"I'm sorry you had to learn the truth like this."

He laughed bitterly.

"You could have told me weeks ago."

She looked toward the city lights.

"I tried."

She handed him a thick envelope.

Inside were emails...

Bank transfers...

Private messages...

And photographs collected over nearly six months.

"My son confessed everything after they ended their affair."

"He couldn't live with the guilt."

The groom flipped through the evidence.

Every page confirmed the same painful truth.

The affair had lasted far longer than one night.

The older woman sighed.

"I raised my son."

"I failed to stop his mistake."

"But I refused to let him destroy another innocent life."

Just then, another car pulled into the hotel driveway.

A young man stepped out.

The man from the photographs.

He walked directly toward the groom before stopping a few feet away.

"I'm the one who owes you an apology."

The groom clenched his fists.

"I don't want excuses."

"You won't get any."

The young man lowered his head.

"I told her to cancel the wedding weeks ago."

"She refused."

"I ended everything yesterday."

"I thought she'd finally tell you."

Instead...

She had planned to smile through the ceremony and begin married life with a lie.

The groom looked toward the ballroom one last time.

"I almost promised forever to someone who never planned to tell me the truth."

For the first time that day...

He realized the older woman hadn't ruined his wedding.

She had saved his future.
