Chapter 1: The Photograph That Ended the Wedding

The ballroom remained frozen.
No one breathed.
The groom stared at the phone in the waiter's trembling hand.
The photo showed his fiancée leaving an upscale hotel shortly after midnight.
She wasn't alone.
A tall man wrapped an arm around her waist as they disappeared into the elevator together.
The timestamp was impossible to ignore.
It had been taken less than twelve hours before the wedding.
The groom slowly lifted his eyes.
"Tell me this isn't real."
The bride's lips trembled.
"I..."
Tears filled her eyes, but they weren't enough to erase what everyone had already seen.
"It wasn't what it looked like."
The older woman finally spoke.
"It never is."
The bride suddenly raised her voice.
"You don't know anything about my life!"
"No," the woman replied calmly.
"But I know everything about my son."
The room fell silent again.
The groom frowned.
"...Your son?"
She nodded.
"The man standing beside your bride."
Gasps rippled through the ballroom.
The groom felt his knees weaken.
The bride buried her face in her hands.
"It only happened once..."
"I made a mistake."
The older woman's expression never changed.
"Then tell him the rest."
The bride slowly lowered her hands.
"I wasn't planning to marry you because I loved you anymore."
Her words struck harder than the photograph.
"I needed this marriage."
"My father's company is bankrupt."
"The wedding contract would save my family."
The groom closed his eyes.
Every promise.
Every kiss.
Every dream they had built together...
Had been a business transaction.
Without another word, he removed the wedding ring from his finger before the ceremony had even begun.
He placed it gently on the bride's bouquet.
"This wedding is over."
The guests watched in stunned silence as he walked away.
No one tried to stop him.
Not even the bride.
