Chapter 3: Justice for Daddy
Three months later, the courtroom was full once again.
This time, the nanny sat beside the little girl as a free woman.
The widow sat at the defendant's table.
The evidence against her was undeniable.
After only four hours of deliberation, the jury returned.
"Guilty."
The widow's face went pale.
The little girl closed her eyes.
The nightmare was finally over.
Outside the courthouse, reporters crowded around the nanny.
She ignored every question and knelt beside the child.
"What do you want to do now?" she asked.
The little girl smiled through her tears.
"I want to go home."
Months later, the businessman’s estate was settled.
According to his final will, the nanny became the girl's legal guardian.
Many people were surprised.
The little girl wasn't.
She wrapped her arms around the woman who had cared for her since birth.
"You never left me," she whispered.
The nanny hugged her tightly.
"Never."
As they walked away together, the little girl looked down at the bright pink toy phone that had changed everything.
Then she placed it in a memory box beside a photograph of her father.
The toy phone had revealed the truth.
But her father's love had protected her all along.
