Chapter 1: The Voice on the Toy Phone
Chapter 1: The Voice on the Toy Phone
For several long seconds, nobody in the courtroom moved.
The widow sat frozen in her chair as her own voice echoed from the tiny pink toy phone.
"I told you it would look like an accident," the recording said.
A man's voice answered nervously.
"What about the nanny?"
The widow laughed.
"Everyone trusts grieving wives. Nobody trusts servants."
Gasps spread across the room.
The nanny covered her mouth with trembling hands.
The judge immediately ordered the recording to be examined.
But the little girl wasn't finished.
She reached into her pajama pocket and pulled out a small flash drive.
"My daddy gave this to me before he died," she said softly.
"He said if anything happened to him, I should give it to someone honest."
The courtroom exploded with whispers.
The flash drive was handed to investigators.
Within minutes, they discovered security footage that had never been shown during the trial.
The footage revealed the widow entering her husband's private office the night before his death.
She had lied.
Again.
For the first time since the trial began, the prosecutor looked uncertain.

And the widow looked terrified.
Because the evidence against her was growing by the minute.
