Chapter 3: The Price of Betrayal

Victoria walked across the ballroom with remarkable calm.
She stopped directly in front of Natalie.
Then...
Without raising her voice...
She removed her wedding ring.
Placed it into Daniel's hand.
"Our daughters will know exactly why their family ended tonight."
She turned and walked away.
Daniel tried to follow.
She never looked back.
Across the room, Eric finally found the courage to face Emily.
"I made the biggest mistake of my life."
Emily smiled sadly.
"No."
"You made hundreds of small choices."
"Tonight was simply the first time they had consequences."
He lowered his head.
"I still love you."
Emily looked at the anniversary cake.
At the initials embroidered onto every napkin.
At ten years of memories that suddenly felt like someone else's life.
"Love doesn't survive where respect dies."
She removed her wedding ring.
Set it gently beside the DNA report.
"I've already signed the divorce papers."
Grant handed Eric another envelope.
Inside were divorce documents.
Financial records.
Bank statements.
Copies of every transfer Eric had secretly made to Natalie over the past year.
Emily had prepared for every possibility.
"I wasn't waiting for revenge," she said.
"I was waiting for proof."
Her father quietly stood beside her.
For the first time in months...
She no longer felt alone.
The guests slowly began leaving.
Nobody applauded.
Nobody celebrated.
Some endings deserved silence.
