Chapter 16 - THE DAY GREG LOST CONTROL

Michael called security before Greg entered the conference room.
We moved away from the glass wall while staff met him near the lobby.
Greg demanded that his wife leave with him.
Sarah stood trembling, but did not move.
When a security guard explained that she was free to choose, Greg suddenly changed tactics.
He said he was concerned for her safety.
He said our family was manipulating her.
He said the photographs were ordinary snapshots from a birthday party.
Perhaps they were.
What mattered was how he was using them.
Sarah asked to speak without him present.
Greg shouted that she had no right.
The guard asked him to leave.
He refused until Michael explained that police had been called.
Greg fled before officers arrived.
Sarah finally gave a recorded statement to Ruiz.
She admitted taking the five thousand dollars, using my credit card, and threatening me after I woke up.
She described Greg's role in pressuring her to get the ledger.
She did not blame him for the shove.
"That was me," she said.
I heard those words from across the hall.
They did not heal me.
They made the truth less lonely.
The investigation widened as banking records were obtained through lawful process.
Some charges appeared connected to Greg's shell companies.
Others led to a trust no one in our family recognized.
Arthur Vale denied involvement.
June remained missing.
That evening Elise examined the ledger from Thomas's radio.
She found recurring initials beside unaccounted shipments.
A.V. appeared often.
So did G.H.
But the largest total belonged to a third entry: M.H.
I stared at my own initials.
"That can't be me."
Elise turned the page.
The handwriting was Thomas's.
Beside M.H. he had written one chilling sentence.
