Six months later, the woman's trial drew national attention.
The memory card, the yacht surveillance footage, and forensic evidence left no room for doubt.
She was convicted of attempted murder, criminal sabotage, and insurance fraud.
As the verdict was read, she turned toward Ethan one last time.
The boy simply stood quietly beside the billionaire.
He held the old compass in one hand.
He felt no hatred.
Only relief.
Outside the courthouse, reporters surrounded the billionaire.
"What changed your life?"
He looked at Ethan before answering.
"I built companies worth billions."
"But the greatest investment I ever made..."
He rested a hand on the boy's shoulder.
"...was believing a child everyone else ignored."
Years later, every visitor walking through the rebuilt harbor would notice the bronze statue of a small boy standing with his arms stretched across a boarding ramp.
