Chapter 2: The Invisible Needle
Daniel instinctively pulled his arm away.
The ballroom fell silent once more.
Victoria's eyes flashed with fury before softening again.
"What is wrong with you?" she asked Emily.
Emily ignored her.
"Take the cufflink off."
Daniel looked from his wife to the terrified maid.
"You've accused my wife of trying to murder me," he said calmly.
"You'd better have proof."
Emily swallowed.
"I overheard her meeting upstairs."
Victoria laughed.
"So now she's inventing stories."
Daniel remained expressionless.
"Security."
The head of security stepped forward.
"Check every hallway camera on the executive floor from three hours ago."
Victoria's fingers tightened around the velvet box.
"It isn't necessary," she said smoothly.
"It absolutely is."
Minutes later, a guard hurried back carrying a tablet.
"Sir..."
The footage appeared.
Victoria.
Two unknown men.
The conference room.
The velvet box.
Although there was no audio, the meeting was undeniable.
