CHAPTER 2: THE MEN WHO RETURNED
CHAPTER 2: THE MEN WHO RETURNED
A week later, Vincent received a message from one of his oldest advisers.
The contents turned his blood cold.
The men responsible for the Hayes massacre were still alive.
Worse.
They had never stopped working in the shadows.
Someone had hidden the truth from him for fifteen years.
Someone powerful.
Someone close.
The investigation led to an unexpected name.
Marco Bellini.
Vincent's own second-in-command.
The man he had trusted like a brother.
The same man who had ordered the attack on the Hayes family.
And the same man who now wanted Vincent's newborn son dead.
The reason was simple.
Marco believed Anthony's birth threatened his future control of the organization.
That night gunfire erupted outside Serena's apartment.
Vincent's security team arrived seconds before assassins broke through the door.
Serena barely escaped with her life.
When Vincent arrived, she stood trembling beside a police car.
"Why?" she demanded.
Vincent answered with painful honesty.
"Because the people who destroyed your family are afraid you'll expose them."
Serena looked at him.
"You knew?"
"Not everything."
"But enough."
Vincent couldn't deny it.
The truth hung between them.
Then Serena did something unexpected.
She handed him a small photograph.
It showed her family together before the tragedy.
A smiling mother.
A proud father.
Two children.
One of them Samuel.
"Look at them," she whispered.
Vincent stared at the photo.
For the first time in decades, tears filled his eyes.
"They deserved better."
"Yes," Serena replied.
"They did."
The next morning, Vincent declared war on the men responsible.
Not for power.
May you like
Not for revenge.
For justice.
