Chapter 1: The Recording

Mariana barely slept that night.
The image of the locked door haunted her.
And so did Doña Consuelo's trembling voice.
"Please... don't leave me alone with her."
The next morning, Mariana made a decision.
If nobody would believe her words, she needed proof.
She began carrying her phone in the pocket of her uniform and quietly recorded everything she could.
Days passed.
Camila continued her routine.
The drops in the water.
The locked doors.
The canceled phone calls.
The lies.
Then, one afternoon, Mariana finally captured something impossible to deny.
Camila was standing in the kitchen speaking on the phone.
She believed nobody was nearby.
Mariana remained hidden behind the pantry door.
Camila laughed softly.
"If the old woman keeps refusing food, that's her choice."
A pause.
Then came the sentence that made Mariana's blood run cold.
"Soon Santiago will have no reason to keep her here. Once she's gone, everything becomes much simpler."
Mariana stopped breathing.
The recording captured every word.
For the first time, she had evidence.
But danger arrived faster than she expected.
That evening, Camila entered Doña Consuelo's room unexpectedly and found Mariana sitting beside the elderly woman.
Their eyes met.
For several long seconds, nobody spoke.
Then Camila smiled.
The kind of smile that felt more dangerous than anger.
"You seem very interested in my mother-in-law lately."
Mariana felt fear crawl through her chest.
Camila already suspected something.
And if she discovered the recording...
Everything would be over.
