Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Door

No one spoke.
No one dared.
Arthur stood motionless with Julian in his arms while the guests watched from a distance.
The silence felt heavier than any accusation.
Then Arthur looked inside the study.
The room was untouched.
At first glance.
But Arthur noticed something immediately.
The safe behind his desk was open.
His eyes narrowed.
Slowly, he walked toward it.
Inside, several documents were missing.
Not random papers.
The trust fund records.
Julian's inheritance files.
And one envelope Arthur had locked away years ago.
A letter written by his late father.
Arthur's jaw tightened.
"Who opened this room?" he asked quietly.
Nobody answered.
Then Julian lifted his head.
"I saw Victoria come out earlier."
The hallway froze.
Every face turned toward Victoria.
Her color drained instantly.
"Arthur, I can explain—"
"Then explain."
His voice never rose.
That made it worse.
Victoria's hands trembled.
"I wasn't stealing."
Arthur stared at her.
"Then why did you need the key?"
Victoria swallowed hard.
Because the truth she had hidden for months was finally cornered.
Before she could answer, Clara stepped forward holding a tablet.
"Arthur... security recovered deleted footage."
Victoria's eyes widened.
For the first time that night...
Fear appeared.
Real fear.
And Arthur saw it.
The woman he thought he knew was suddenly a stranger.
