Chapter 3: A Father's Choice

Police sirens echoed outside the underground compound.
Marcus smiled faintly.
"They're here."
Arthur handed Damian the silver flash drive.
"Everything is inside."
"The hospital footage."
"The names."
"The people responsible."
"The truth."
Moments later, heavily armed officers stormed the control room.
Marcus surrendered without resistance.
Before they led him away, he asked for one minute.
The officers agreed.
Marcus slowly walked toward Oliver.
The little boy instinctively hid behind Damian.
Marcus stopped several feet away.
He smiled sadly.
"I've dreamed of this moment for eight years."
"But I don't deserve to be called your father."
He turned toward Damian.
"You are."
"You taught him kindness."
"You gave him courage."
"You loved him every single day."
Marcus extended a small wooden toy airplane.
"I bought this the day you were born."
"I hoped one day I'd give it to my son."
Oliver looked at Damian.
Damian gently nodded.
The boy stepped forward and accepted the toy.
Then, after a long pause...
He quietly spoke.
"I can have two fathers."
One who gave me life...
"And one who taught me how to live."
Marcus closed his eyes as tears finally escaped.
For the first time in years...
He cried.
Months later, the investigation exposed the powerful organization behind the hospital fire.
Dozens of officials were arrested.
Arthur survived after emergency surgery and became the key witness in court.
Marcus accepted responsibility for every crime he had committed to protect the truth and received a reduced sentence for cooperating with investigators.
Damian legally adopted Oliver.
On the day the adoption became official, the judge smiled and said,
"Family isn't written by blood."
"It's written by love."
Oliver ran into Damian's arms.
"Dad!"
Damian lifted him high into the air.
This time...
No document.
No lie.
No secret.
Could ever separate them again.
The End.
