Chapter 2: The Witness Nobody Expected

The maintenance worker collapsed onto his knees before Christopher.

"I never wanted the little girl to die."

Juliette screamed.

"Don't listen to him!"

"He's lying!"

But the man reached into his pocket and slowly placed a thick envelope onto the marble table.

Cash.

Every bill carried Juliette's fingerprints.

"I kept everything," he whispered.

"The money..."

"The text messages..."

"The security codes she gave me to disable the cameras."

Christopher nodded silently.

The head of security immediately produced another device.

A backup hard drive.

Juliette frowned.

"No..."

Christopher spoke without emotion.

"You thought you disabled every camera."

"You forgot one."

He pointed toward a small bronze statue beside the pool.

Hidden inside one of its decorative lanterns was an old security camera connected to a private recording system that only Christopher knew existed.

The video began playing.

Every guest watched in horror.

Emma happily chased a butterfly beside the pool.

Juliette looked around to make sure no one was watching.

Then—

She deliberately walked behind the little girl.

Both hands shoved Emma violently into the deep water.

Juliette stood perfectly still as Emma struggled to survive.

She never reached out to help.

Instead...

She waited.

Until the screams began.

Only then did she pretend to panic.

Several women covered their mouths.

One elderly guest burst into tears.

Christopher slowly closed his eyes.

Watching his daughter fight for her life was almost unbearable.

When the video ended, the courtyard fell silent once again.

The sound of approaching police sirens broke the stillness.

Juliette tried to run.

She managed only three steps.

The chief of security intercepted her before she reached the front gate.

"There is nowhere left to go."
