Chapter 2: A Witness Returns from the Shadows
Olivia Grant had spent three years hiding under another name in a small town hundreds of miles away.
When Christopher finally found her, she nearly slammed the door in his face.
"I already buried that nightmare."
Christopher placed Emma's photograph on the table.
"My daughter almost died today."
Olivia's hands began to shake.
She slowly opened an old lockbox hidden beneath her bed.
Inside were copies of medical charts.
Death certificates.
Security reports.
And one flash drive.
She looked Christopher in the eyes.
"Emma's mother didn't die from complications."
Christopher felt his heartbeat stop.
Olivia pressed the flash drive into his hand.
"Someone disconnected her heart monitor."
Silence filled the room.
"I saw Estelle standing beside the bed minutes before every alarm suddenly stopped."
