Chapter 2: The Billion-Dollar Conspiracy

Margaret never denied it.

Instead...

She walked downstairs with perfect composure.

Even while police officers waited in the foyer.

"You always were too emotional, Christopher," she said calmly.

"I simply protected this family."

Christopher stared at the woman who had raised him.

"You tried to murder your granddaughter."

Margaret sighed.

"No."

"I tried to protect the company."

Everyone watched in stunned silence.

She pointed toward Emma.

"The trust your father created gives that little girl controlling ownership of Ashford Holdings on her eighteenth birthday."

Christopher's blood ran cold.

He knew about the inheritance.

But only three people had ever seen the complete legal documents.

Himself.

Margaret.

And the family's attorney.

"If Emma dies before reaching adulthood," Christopher said quietly, "the voting shares transfer..."

"To the surviving trustee," Margaret finished.

"Myself."

The room fell silent again.

Juliette lowered her head.

Tears streamed down her face.

"It started as money," she whispered.

"Then she promised me everything."

Margaret glared at her.

"You weak fool."

Christopher reached into his jacket once more.

This time...

He removed another device.

A small encrypted recorder.

"I expected someone would come after Emma months ago."

Margaret frowned.

"What?"

"I've recorded every conversation in my office since your lawyer asked strange questions about the trust."

Christopher handed the recorder to the lead detective.

It contained weeks of secret meetings.

Bank transfers.

Hidden payments.

Conversations proving attempted murder, conspiracy, fraud, and financial manipulation.

Margaret's confidence disappeared.

For the first time...

She realized she wasn't losing an argument.

She was losing everything.
