Chapter 2: The Bride's Secret Was Never About Love
The ballroom remained silent as the hidden video ended.
Every guest stared at Evelyn.
The flawless bride who had smiled only moments ago now stood surrounded by shattered glass, terrified whispers, and hundreds of accusing eyes.
The groom, Adrian, slowly lowered the untouched champagne glass.
His hands trembled.
His voice barely escaped his lips.
"Tell me this isn't real."
Evelyn didn't answer.
She simply looked at the giant screen where her own face continued to replay, calmly pouring the clear liquid into his drink.
"There has to be an explanation," Adrian whispered.
Finally, Evelyn smiled.
But it wasn't the warm smile he had fallen in love with.
It was cold.
Almost relieved.
"You were never supposed to find out."
Gasps spread through the ballroom.
The maid lowered her head.
"I found the bottle while cleaning the bridal suite," she said quietly.
"I followed her because something felt wrong."
She held up another small evidence bag.
Inside was the nearly empty vial.
Several guests stepped away from Evelyn.
The wedding planner covered her mouth.
Adrian stared at the woman he loved.
"Why?"
Evelyn's eyes filled—not with regret, but anger.
"Because your family destroyed mine."
The room froze once again.
"My father worked for your father's company for twenty-three years."
Her voice became steadier.
"When the company collapsed, your father blamed him for everything."
"He lost his career."
"Our home."
"Our future."
"Three months later... he took his own life."
Every face turned toward Adrian's father, Victor.
His expression suddenly changed.
