Chapter 3: The Files

Chapter 3: The Files

Julian’s lawyer arrived before the police reached the top floor.

So did two doctors.

So did his personal assistant.

That had always been Julian’s real power. Not violence. Not money alone.

Preparation.

He had built entire stories before anyone knew there was a crime.

The moment Evelyn accused him, he planned to accuse her first.

His lawyer rushed into the penthouse, holding a folder.

“My client will not speak without counsel.”

Evelyn looked at the folder.

“You mean the psychiatric file?”

The lawyer stopped walking.

Julian’s assistant turned white.

Evelyn reached into a hidden pocket beneath her gown and removed a small drive.

“For two years, Julian made records about me. Fake breakdowns. Fake witnesses. Fake medical summaries.”

She looked at the doctors.

“And you signed them.”

No one spoke.

Detective Grant entered the room with two officers behind him.

Evelyn handed him the drive.

“There are copies in three places. If anything happens to me, they release automatically.”

Julian stared at her.

“You planned all of this.”

Evelyn’s voice stayed quiet.

“You planned to erase me. I planned to survive you.”

The detective opened the drive on a tablet.

Names appeared.

Payments.

Secret recordings.

Forged reports.

A list of women before Evelyn.

The room changed.

It was no longer about one wedding night.

It was about years of carefully buried damage.

Julian stepped backward.

“No,” he whispered.

Evelyn finally let the smallest trace of emotion enter her face.

“You didn’t start with me.”

Detective Grant looked at Julian.

“But it ends with her.”

Julian’s lawyer slowly lowered the folder.

Even he knew there was no story left to sell.
