Chapter 2: The Price of Humiliation

Chapter 2: The Price of Humiliation

As Clara walked toward the ballroom entrance, the venue manager quietly stepped beside her.

"Madam..."

"Shall I proceed?"

She stopped.

Looked once more at the shredded wedding dress lying across the marble floor.

"Yes."

The manager nodded once.

Then faced the guests.

"Ladies and gentlemen..."

"Today's wedding has been officially canceled."

"The Whitlock family reservation has been permanently terminated."

A stunned silence followed.

Patricia stepped forward.

"You can't throw us out!"

The manager calmly produced another folder.

"We can."

"The contract contains a zero-tolerance clause regarding intentional property damage and abuse toward staff or ownership."

He looked briefly at the torn gown.

"The damage was committed by you."

Patricia's face turned crimson.

"This is ridiculous!"

"I'll sue every one of you!"

Before anyone answered...

Security officers quietly entered through the side doors.

Not rushing.

Not threatening.

Simply waiting.

Andrew finally found his voice.

"Mom..."

"Please stop."

She rounded on him.

"You expect me to apologize?"

Andrew stared at the ruined dress.

Then at Clara.

Then finally at himself.

His shoulders slowly collapsed.

"I should have stopped you."

"I should have stopped this from the beginning."

Patricia looked at her son in disbelief.

"You'd choose her?"

Andrew answered without raising his voice.

"No."

"I should have chosen what was right."

"It just happened to be her."

The words came too late.

Clara never looked back.

Outside the ballroom...

Luxury cars waited beneath the covered entrance.

Not for the Whitlocks.

For Clara.

Her executive assistant opened the rear door.

"The board members are waiting, Ms. Mason."

She nodded once.

"Let's begin."

The car disappeared into the afternoon traffic.

Leaving the wedding behind forever.
