CHAPTER 2 — The Signature That Destroyed Everything

The ballroom remained frozen.

Claire turned the second document over slowly.

Every pair of eyes followed her hands.

At the bottom of the page was the unmistakable signature of Patricia Pierce.

The date...

Today's date.

The time...

Exactly thirty minutes before the wedding ceremony.

Nathan stepped closer.

"What is that?"

Claire didn't answer.

Instead, she handed the document to the hotel manager.

He cleared his throat before reading aloud.

"Confidential instruction from the Pierce Family Foundation."

His voice echoed through the silent ballroom.

"Cancel all scheduled food deliveries to St. Mary's Children's Orphanage until further notice. Redirect the allocated funds to the Pierce Wedding Reception."

Gasps spread through the crowd.

Claire slowly raised her eyes.

"The orphanage where I grew up."

Patricia's confident smile disappeared.

"That's... that's business. You don't understand."

Claire's voice remained calm.

"No."

"You simply stole food from children to make this wedding look more extravagant."

Nathan stared at his mother.

"You told me the foundation had financial problems."

Patricia avoided his eyes.

Before she could answer, Claire opened another envelope hidden inside the folder.

Bank transfers.

Emails.

Internal approvals.

Every document pointed to one person.

Patricia Pierce.

The guests who had been recording the humiliation never lowered their phones.

Now they were recording a confession.

Nathan whispered,

"Mom..."

"What have you done?"

Patricia reached for the papers.

Claire calmly stepped back.

"You already ruined enough lives."
