CHAPTER 1 — The Moment Everything Broke

The villa had been silent for exactly three seconds.
Three seconds after the splash.
Then chaos tried to disguise itself as concern.
“Call an ambulance!” someone shouted.
But no one moved fast enough.
Clara floated beneath the surface for a moment that felt endless—until Daniel broke through the water like a blade cutting through glass. His suit clung to his body, heavy, dragging him down, but he didn’t stop.
He reached her.
Grabbed her.
And pulled her back into the world.
On the pool edge, the little boy was screaming until his knees gave out.
“Mom! Mom, please!”
Daniel laid Clara on the marble floor. His hands trembled only once—when he pressed two fingers to her neck.
A pulse.
Weak. But there.
Relief didn’t come. Rage did.
He lifted his head slowly.
And for the first time, the entire villa understood something had shifted.
The woman in white—the one who had pushed her—stood frozen near the champagne table. Her smile was still there, but it no longer fit her face.
Daniel looked at her.
Not loudly.
Not emotionally.
May you like
Just completely.
And that silence hurt more than any scream.
