Chapter 4: Justice in Open Court

Nine months later, the courtroom was standing room only.

Richard and Vanessa sat at separate defense tables.

Neither looked wealthy anymore.

Vanessa avoided every camera.

Richard's expensive confidence had disappeared completely.

The prosecution presented overwhelming evidence.

Financial crimes.

Hidden assets.

Fraudulent companies.

The affair.

The conspiracy.

The courthouse surveillance.

Medical testimony.

Cell phone records.

Deleted messages recovered by forensic experts.

Finally, Khloe entered the courtroom.

She walked slowly but proudly.

In her arms rested baby Grace.

The child everyone had tried to keep from existing.

The courtroom fell silent.

Richard stared at his daughter for the first time since her birth.

His eyes filled with tears.

Khloe never looked at him.

When called to testify, she spoke calmly.

"I spent years believing love could fix dishonesty."

"It can't."

"But truth eventually finds everyone."

The jury deliberated less than three hours.

Vanessa Kensington—

Guilty on all counts of aggravated assault, resulting in serious bodily injury.

Richard Harrington—

Guilty of conspiracy, wire fraud, financial crimes, and obstruction of justice.

The judge imposed lengthy prison sentences on both defendants.

As deputies led them away, Harrison simply placed one hand on his sister's shoulder.

Neither of them spoke.

They no longer needed to.
