Hours later...

Rain poured across the city.

Daniel searched every hospital.

Every hotel.

Every place she might have gone.

Nothing.

Then his phone rang.

It was his attorney.

"Sir... there's something you need to know."

"What?"

"Your wife signed divorce papers three weeks ago."

Daniel froze.

"What?"

"She never filed them."

"She said she still believed you could become the man she married."

Silence.

Then another sentence followed.

"And... your father asked me to give you something if this day ever came."

An envelope.

Daniel opened it with shaking hands.

Inside was a letter written by his late father.

"A man doesn't lose his family the day they leave.

He loses them the day they stop feeling safe beside him."

His hands slowly lowered.

The words struck harder than any insult ever could.

"Your wife has been admitted to St. Mary's Hospital."

"There were complications."
