Chapter 2: The Woman in the Mirror

Chapter 2: The Woman in the Mirror
The silence that followed was unbearable.
The lady of the house stared at the phone in frozen disbelief.
Frame by frame...
The security footage replayed her every move.
At 9:42 p.m., she walked into the master bedroom after everyone had gathered downstairs for dinner.
She looked over both shoulders.
Then quietly opened the jewelry safe.
She never touched the diamond necklace with her bare hands.
Instead, she slipped on a pair of white silk gloves she had hidden inside her purse.
She carefully removed the necklace...
Wrapped it inside a velvet pouch...
Then walked downstairs.
Another camera caught her entering the maid's tiny room through the back hallway.
She knelt beside the bed.
Lifted the thin mattress.
And slid the necklace underneath before quietly leaving.
Seven minutes later...
Her terrified scream echoed through the mansion.
"My necklace!"
The entire household rushed upstairs.
Exactly where she wanted them.
The police officer watching the footage slowly lowered his notebook.
"You planted the evidence."
Her lips trembled.
"I... I can explain..."
But no one was listening anymore.
The maid collapsed onto her knees.
Tears streamed down her face—not from fear this time...
But from relief.
The homeowner walked toward the officers.
"Remove those handcuffs."
One officer immediately unlocked them.
The cold steel cuffs hit the driveway with a metallic clang.
For the first time that night...
