Chapter 3: The Man Who Lost Everything
The silence shattered.
Adrián rushed toward Mariana.
"Please..."
She looked at him without emotion.
"You don't understand."
"No," Mariana answered softly.
"I understand perfectly."
Only ten minutes earlier he had proudly announced she wasn't worthy of his name.
Now his hands shook as he reached for hers.
"I made a terrible mistake."
"You judged me by my family."
"I can explain."
Mariana slowly removed the engagement ring from her finger.
Its diamond sparkled beneath the church lights.
She gently placed it into his palm.
"You already explained."
She turned toward the attorney.
"Let's leave."
As they walked down the aisle together, guests instinctively stepped aside.
No one applauded.
No one whispered.
The only sound was Adrián calling after her.
"Mariana!"
She stopped for only a second.
Without turning around, she said quietly,
"You didn't reject a poor woman."
"You rejected the only person who could have saved your family."
Then she continued walking.
Behind her...
Adrián's father collapsed into a pew after receiving a phone call.
The company accounts had already been frozen.
Investors were withdrawing.
Banks were demanding immediate repayment.
Within minutes...
The empire they had spent decades building began to crumble.
