Chapter 5: The Legacy Restored

The Dallas skyline looked breathtaking from the top floor of the Hale Construction building. The sun was setting, casting a warm, golden glow across the glass skyscrapers.

The door to my office opened, and I turned around.

My father walked in. He was using a cane, but his posture was straight, his shoulders broad. The hollow, haunted look in his eyes was entirely gone, replaced by the sharp, calculating intellect that had built an empire.

"You're working late," he said, his voice rich and steady.

"Just finalizing the new blueprints for the downtown high-rise," I replied, walking over to the seating area and pouring two glasses of scotch—neat.

He took the glass, sitting down in the leather armchair. He raised his left hand to take a sip, and the gold watch caught the late afternoon light. It was back exactly where it belonged.

"The district attorney called today," Dad said, staring into his glass. "Vivian took the plea deal. Ten years, no possibility of early parole. Marcus got three years for the stolen property and attempting to flee."

"Good," I said softly, taking a sip of the burning liquid.

He looked up at me, pride welling in his eyes. "You saved me, Isabella. You saved everything your mother and I built. I always knew you were smart, but I didn't know you were this fierce."

"You taught me to read contracts, Dad," I smiled. "I just learned how to read people, too."

He chuckled, a deep, genuine sound that I hadn't heard in nearly a decade. "So, Madam CEO. What's our next move?"

I looked back out at the sprawling city. We had survived the rot from the inside out. We had excised the parasites. The foundation was strong again.

"We build," I said. "Bigger than before."
