Exactly one year later, Claire hosted Christmas dinner in her own home.
There was no mansion.
No crystal chandeliers.
No forced smiles.
Only close friends, laughter, warm food, and genuine love.
As everyone gathered around the table, one guest hesitated.
A young burn survivor who had recently completed treatment looked nervously at the scars on Claire's legs.
"Do they still hurt?"
Claire smiled gently.
"Sometimes."
"Were you scared?"
"Very."
"Then how did you become this strong?"
Claire looked around the room before answering.
"I wasn't strong because I never got hurt."
She reached for the girl's hand.
"I became strong because I stopped protecting the people who hurt me."
Outside, fresh snow quietly covered the world.
Inside, the Christmas lights reflected warmly across smiling faces.
