Chapter 5 — A Different Beginning

Six months later, Evelyn stood in the same ballroom.
The broken chandelier had been replaced.
The walls had been restored.
But the house no longer belonged to Adrian.
It had become a retreat for women rebuilding their lives after leaving controlling relationships.
The first guests arrived carrying small suitcases and uncertain smiles.
Evelyn greeted each of them personally.
Her father walked beside her.
"I always knew you were strong," he said.
She smiled.
"I wasn't strong because I never fell."
She looked around the bright room.
"I became strong because I chose to stand back up."
Outside, the evening sun settled behind the trees.
Inside, laughter slowly replaced silence.
For the first time in years, the house no longer echoed with fear.
