Chapter 3 — The Garage That Never Belonged to Him
Daniel suddenly remembered something.
"The cars."
Hope flashed across his face.
"They're registered under the company."
I looked toward the elevator leading to the underground garage.
"They were."
The attorney handed me another folder.
"Ownership transfer completed."
Daniel snatched the papers.
His hands shook as he turned each page.
One by one...
Every title had already changed.
The vintage Ferrari.
The black Rolls-Royce.
The custom Aston Martin.
Even the limited-edition Bentley Patricia loved to brag about.
Every vehicle now belonged to Ward Holdings—the family trust my grandfather created decades earlier.
Patricia gasped.
"My Bentley..."
I met her eyes.
"It was never yours."
Chloe quietly stepped backward.
Another step.
Then another.
Daniel noticed.
"Chloe..."
She avoided his eyes.
"You told me everything was yours."
"It was."
His voice cracked.
"I thought it was."
She gave a sad smile.
"No."
"You wanted it to be."
Without another word, she removed the enormous engagement ring from her finger.
The diamond landed softly on the coffee table beside the torn separation agreement.
"I'm not marrying a man under federal investigation."
She turned.
Walked through the front door.
And never looked back.
Daniel watched the woman he had destroyed his marriage for disappear without hesitation.
