Chapter 2 — The Secret Behind Linda's Company
Ryan spent the afternoon insisting everything was a misunderstanding.
But Emily wasn't finished.
Her attorney placed another folder onto the dining table.
"This concerns Linda Holdings LLC."
Linda's face turned pale.
"I don't know what that is."
Emily slid several bank statements across the table.
"My father suspected something years ago."
The statements showed money moving through several shell companies before disappearing overseas.
Linda grabbed the papers.
"Those are fake."
"They came directly from a federal subpoena."
Ryan stared at his mother.
"You told me your consulting business paid for everything."
Linda refused to answer.
Then another investigator entered the house carrying sealed evidence boxes.
"We've frozen every account connected to these transactions."
Ryan looked from his mother to Emily.
"You knew?"
Emily nodded.
"For almost a year."
"I was waiting until there was enough evidence."
Ryan suddenly understood.
