Chapter 4: Justice in the Courtroom
The courtroom remained silent as Sofia entered.
The bruises had faded.
The emotional wounds had not.
Carmen sat confidently beside her attorneys.
She still believed money could erase everything.
Then prosecutors played the hotel footage.
No narration.
No editing.
Just raw surveillance video.
Javier waiting outside.
Carmen entering.
Sofia leaving in tears.
The courtroom watched without making a sound.
Then came the audio.
"Just don't leave bruises where people can see them."
Javier lowered his head.
He never looked at Sofia again.
One by one, the former victims testified.
Each story matched the last.
Each piece completed another section of the puzzle.
When Carmen finally took the stand, she insisted everything had been a misunderstanding.
The prosecutor calmly held up forty-seven separate property transfer agreements connected to her family.
"Is it also a misunderstanding," he asked, "that every woman who refused to sign reported abuse?"
Carmen had no answer.
After three weeks of testimony, the verdict arrived.
Guilty.
Multiple counts of assault, conspiracy, extortion, coercion, and fraud.
Javier was convicted as an accomplice.
