Chapter 3 – The Sunrise After the Storm

Six months later...
Claire walked into the same Manhattan townhouse.
Only this time...
She owned it alone.
The divorce settlement had been finalized.
Because of Michael's misconduct and financial fraud, he had resigned before the Board could remove him.
Several civil lawsuits followed.
His carefully built reputation disappeared faster than his fortune.
Brittany tried selling exclusive interviews.
No major network wanted them.
She had mistaken borrowed luxury for permanent success.
When the money vanished...
So did everyone who had called themselves her friends.
Claire never celebrated.
Revenge had never been her goal.
Freedom was.
She accepted an offer to become CEO of an international consulting firm that had admired the way she handled impossible negotiations.
On her first day, a young assistant nervously entered her office.
"Mrs. Carter?"
Claire smiled.
"It's Ms. Bennett again."
She had reclaimed her maiden name.
The assistant nodded.
"I'm sorry... Ms. Bennett."
Claire stood beside the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking Manhattan.
The sunrise painted the skyline in shades of gold.
Months earlier, she had watched the same city while waiting for one email to be delivered.
Back then, she thought she had lost everything.
Now she understood the truth.
She hadn't lost her future.
She had escaped the wrong one.
As she picked up her briefcase, her phone buzzed once.
An unknown number.
Only one sentence appeared.
You deserved better.
There was no signature.
No explanation.
Claire smiled.
She deleted the message without replying.
Some victories didn't need witnesses.
Some endings didn't require revenge.
Only the courage to walk away.
And for the first time in years...
She walked toward a future that belonged entirely to her.
