Chapter 1 – 9:00 A.M.
At exactly 9:00 a.m., Claire's scheduled email landed in 127 inboxes across Carter Global.
For three seconds...
Nothing happened.
Then the phones began ringing.
The first call came from Human Resources.
The second from Legal.
The third from the Chairman of the Board.
By 9:07, Brittany's company laptop had been remotely locked.
By 9:11, Security received instructions to escort her to the executive conference room.
She stared at her screen in confusion.
"What is happening?"
Her manager wouldn't meet her eyes.
Two security officers appeared beside her desk.
"Ms. Adams, please come with us."
Every employee watched.
The whispers spread faster than wildfire.
"That's the CEO's assistant."
"No..."
"That's the woman from the email."
"My God... those pictures are real."
Across the building, Michael stepped out of the elevator.
His phone exploded with missed calls.
42 notifications.
18 text messages.
The Chairman's name flashed across the screen.
"Michael," the old man said coldly, "get to the boardroom. Now."
Michael entered to find twelve directors sitting in complete silence.
The photographs were projected across the giant screen.
His face turned white.
"Explain this."
He opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
One director leaned forward.
"While your wife was negotiating the Harrison merger overseas..."
"...you were sleeping with one of your direct reports?"
Another director added quietly,
"Do you understand the legal exposure you've created for this company?"
Michael suddenly realized this wasn't about his marriage anymore.
It was about shareholder lawsuits.
Abuse of authority.
Conflict of interest.
Corporate misconduct.
His affair had become a corporate crisis.
Meanwhile...
Claire sat peacefully in her hotel suite.
She stirred her coffee while watching financial news.
Her phone finally rang.
Michael.
She answered.
"Claire..."
His voice shook.
"You've destroyed me."
She smiled softly.
"No, Michael."
"I simply introduced everyone to the man you've always been."
Then she hung up.
