Chapter 3 — The Truth Hidden in the Nursery

I carried Anna upstairs.
She fell asleep almost immediately, exhausted beyond words.
When she was finally resting, I quietly searched the house.
Inside the nursery closet, behind a stack of baby blankets, I found a small notebook.
Every page was dated.
Every page described something my mother had done.
"Forced me to scrub floors."
"No breakfast today."
"Said Daniel would never believe me."
"Told me stress is good for weak women."
Some pages had tiny drops of dried tears that had stained the paper.
Near the back was an envelope.
Inside were recordings from the home's security cameras.
Anna had secretly copied them weeks earlier.
The videos showed everything.
My mother shouting.
Ordering Anna to stand for hours.
Taking away her phone.
Even grabbing her hair exactly as I had witnessed.
I realized Anna had never planned to expose her.
She only kept the evidence in case something happened to our baby.

That was the moment I made my decision.
There would be no more second chances.
