Several weeks later, Victoria finally agreed to answer questions in the presence of her attorney.

She admitted she had prevented Emily from leaving.

She insisted she had acted out of panic because she believed no replacement caregiver could arrive quickly enough.

The detective remained calm.

"That still doesn't explain the restraints."

Victoria lowered her eyes.

For several long seconds, the room was silent.

Finally, she admitted she had made a terrible decision.

"I wasn't thinking clearly."

The statement wasn't enough to erase what had happened.

Civil claims followed.

Criminal charges related to unlawful restraint were filed based on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
