Chapter 3: Following the Evidence

The next morning I met with Detective Harris.

He spread several documents across the conference table.

"We've spoken with six former employees."

Every one of them described the same pattern.

Strict rules.

Constant intimidation.

Sudden resignations.

One former housekeeper even admitted she had written a resignation letter that Victoria dictated herself.

Then another discovery changed everything.

Security cameras inside the house had been disabled that afternoon.

Not by accident.

Someone had entered the system using Victoria's personal security code.

When confronted with the records, Victoria insisted someone else had used her password.

But digital logs showed no evidence of unauthorized access.

Meanwhile, I visited Emily's son in the children's hospital.

He smiled weakly despite everything.

His courage reminded me that real strength often appears in the quietest people.

I promised Emily she would never have to choose between her child and her job again.
