PART 15 — The Last Ashford Secret

Julian had spent the entire evening pretending to be uninvolved.

He had hidden behind his wineglass.

He had allowed Camille to confess.

Then, while everyone focused on Garrick, he quietly left the estate.

Marcus had promised Julian control of the company if Garrick failed.

But Marcus never intended to keep that promise either.

Police reached my house before Julian could ignite the fuel.

He was arrested inside Henry’s study.

The original trust ledgers survived.

One contained handwritten notes documenting Marcus’s early transactions.

Another contained a copy of the inspection report Henry had ordered before his final trip.

The brake system had been in perfect condition.

The evidence against Marcus and Miriam was no longer dependent on a single witness.

It was supported by documents, payments, recorded conversations, and Henry’s own notes.

Garrick was returned to custody without bond.

Julian faced charges for conspiracy, burglary, and attempted destruction of evidence.

Camille agreed to cooperate.

She turned over twelve years of financial records she had secretly copied because she feared her mother would eventually blame her.

Ashford Industries announced that every executive involved in the scheme had been removed.

The board also voted to rename the company.

For the first time, the Ashford name began disappearing from the buildings the family had treated as personal property.

Sienna spent three nights in the hospital.

Her physical injuries would heal.

The emotional ones would require more time.

She filed for divorce.

She also requested a permanent protection order.

During the hearing, Garrick refused to look at her.

But as officers led him away, he stopped beside me.

“You think you won?”

I said nothing.

“My mother kept copies,” he whispered. “Evidence against Henry.”

He smiled.

“She says your husband was preparing to leave you before he died.”

The words were meant to hurt me.

For one second, they did.

Then I remembered Marcus’s strategy.

Confuse.

Discredit.

Divide.

I turned toward Miriam, seated beside her attorney.

She watched me with a cold smile.

That afternoon, investigators searched her private bank vault.

They found photographs, letters, and a sealed recording made by Henry the night before his death.

The recording began with Henry saying my name.

Then came the sentence that ended Miriam’s final lie.

“Victoria, I know who has been stealing from the trust, and I know they intend to blame you.”

But the final sixty seconds contained something even more devastating.

Henry named every person involved.

Including a judge who was still serving on the state supreme court.
