PART 11 — The Cold Case Reopened

Police stopped Marcus and Miriam before they reached the estate gates.
Miriam was found crouched inside the back of an SUV.
Marcus had the ledger’s missing final page folded inside his coat.
Both were detained.
Garrick remained under guard while investigators photographed Sienna’s injuries and collected evidence from the mansion.
At the hospital, imaging confirmed that Sienna’s arm had been fractured by forceful twisting.
She also had two healing ribs and bruises from earlier incidents.
Each injury told part of the story she had been too frightened to speak aloud.
By sunrise, she gave a complete statement.
Garrick was arrested on charges related to domestic assault, unlawful restraint, witness intimidation, and conspiracy to commit financial fraud.
He looked at Sienna as officers placed him in handcuffs.
“I loved you.”
Sienna met his eyes.
“No. You loved controlling me.”
Miriam was arrested for financial crimes, evidence tampering, and conspiracy connected to Henry’s death.
Marcus faced similar charges.
The district attorney reopened Henry’s case as a suspected homicide.
Reporters gathered outside the estate before breakfast.
Ashford Industries issued a statement suspending Garrick and every executive linked to his accounts.
The emergency board elected Evelyn Park interim chief executive.
My trust supported the decision.
For the first time in decades, the Ashford family no longer controlled the company bearing their name.
At the hospital, Sienna asked for her wedding ring to be removed.
Her fingers were too swollen, so a nurse carefully cut through the band.
Sienna watched the broken circle fall into a metal tray.
Then she exhaled.
It was the first free breath I had seen her take all night.
But freedom did not arrive all at once.
That afternoon, Garrick’s attorney appeared on television.
He claimed Sienna had fabricated everything to help her mother seize the company.
He released edited audio clips portraying Garrick as concerned and protective.
Then he announced that the court had approved Garrick’s temporary release on a secured bond pending a detention hearing.
Sienna stared at the television.
“He’s getting out?”
“Only temporarily,” I said.
She shook her head.
“You don’t understand. Garrick always has a second plan.”
My phone rang.
It was Commissioner Fletcher.
A transport officer had been injured outside the courthouse.
Garrick had never reached the vehicle assigned to take him home.
Someone wearing a police uniform had escorted him into another car.
May you like
Garrick Ashford had disappeared.
And the officer driving him away was carrying Marcus Hale’s identification.
