Chapter 1: The Woman They Thought Was Powerless

Chapter 1: The Woman They Thought Was Powerless

Marcus stood frozen in the middle of the lobby.

The champagne glass slipped from his fingers.

Crystal shattered across imported Italian marble.

No one reacted.

Not because they hadn't heard it.

Because every eye in the hotel was fixed on the giant screen above the reception desk.

CASTLE HOSPITALITY GROUP — BOARD AUTHORIZATION VERIFIED

EXECUTIVE ACCESS REVOKED

The words remained on the screen like a verdict.

Marcus laughed once.

A forced laugh.

"This is ridiculous."

He turned toward the general manager.

"Fix it."

The older man didn't move.

His hands trembled over the keyboard.

"I... I can't."

Marcus stepped closer.

"I own this hotel."

A calm female voice interrupted him.

"No."

Every head turned.

The revolving doors opened once more.

Isabella walked back inside.

Not hurried.

Not angry.

Simply composed.

The same cream-colored coat.

The same phone resting in one hand.

Nothing else had changed.

Except everyone else's attitude.

The concierge who had refused to meet her eyes minutes earlier stepped forward.

"Welcome back, Ms. Isabella."

Every employee straightened.

Housekeepers.

Bellmen.

Receptionists.

Security.

One after another...

They bowed their heads.

Marcus stared.

"What are you doing?"

No one answered him.

The elevator doors opened.

Three men in dark tailored suits stepped into the lobby.

Behind them came two women carrying leather briefcases.

Corporate attorneys.

The lead attorney stopped before Isabella.

"Ms. Isabella."

She handed over a thick folder.

"The emergency board meeting has concluded."

Marcus grabbed the folder.

"What emergency meeting?"

The attorney looked at him without emotion.

"The one approving your immediate removal."

Marcus flipped through page after page.

Every signature was authentic.

Every seal legitimate.

Every vote unanimous.

Impossible.

He looked up.

"You can't remove me."

The attorney's expression never changed.

"We already did."

Silence swallowed the lobby.

Then Isabella finally looked directly at Marcus.

For the first time that evening.

"There was one thing you never bothered asking."

Marcus swallowed.

"What?"

May you like

She smiled sadly.

"Who built your empire."
