Chapter 4: The Fall of the Vale Dynasty

Victoria Vale was arrested three weeks later at a private airport in Switzerland.
She had been traveling under another name and carrying diamonds sewn into the lining of her coat.
Her arrest ended the Vale family’s final attempt to escape responsibility.
The criminal trial began six months after the wedding.
Every seat in the courtroom was occupied.
Adrian entered wearing an expensive navy suit, but he no longer looked like the untouchable heir who had commanded a ballroom.
Without his family’s money and influence protecting him, he appeared smaller.
Ordinary.
Elena testified for nearly four hours.
Adrian’s attorney attempted to portray her as a bitter former fiancée seeking control of the Vale fortune.
“Isn’t it true,” the attorney asked, “that you financially benefited from the collapse of Vale Holdings?”
Elena looked directly at the jury.
“I benefited from surviving.”
The courtroom became silent.
The prosecution played the wedding footage.
Then they played Lily’s recording.
Finally, they presented Margaret’s files and the audio of Conrad ordering employees to destroy evidence.
One by one, former workers testified.
Accountants described fake companies.
Assistants described threats.
Three women described settlements arranged after Adrian had harmed them.
The system that had protected the Vales for years collapsed in public.
Conrad accepted a plea agreement midway through the trial after learning that his closest business partners had agreed to testify against him.
Victoria did the same.
Adrian refused.
He still believed his name would save him.
During his final testimony, he claimed Elena had caused everything.
“She embarrassed me,” he said. “She deliberately challenged me in front of everyone.”
The prosecutor approached the witness stand.
“And because she challenged you, you believed you had the right to strike her?”
Adrian hesitated.
That hesitation destroyed him.
He looked toward the jury, searching for sympathy.
He found none.
The verdict came after seven hours of deliberation.
Guilty on every major count.
Adrian showed no emotion until the judge revoked his bail and ordered him taken into custody immediately.
Then he turned toward Elena.
“This isn’t over.”
Elena stood beside Naomi.
“Yes,” she said calmly. “It is.”
Outside the courthouse, reporters surrounded her.
Microphones were pushed toward her face.
They asked whether she felt victorious.
Elena looked at the cameras.
“This was never about victory. It was about making sure the next woman who says no is believed before she has to bleed in front of a room full of people.”
That evening, the Vale name was removed from the company headquarters.
Vale Holdings was dissolved.
Its remaining assets were sold to repay employees, investors, and victims.
But one final legal issue remained.
Adrian’s attorneys claimed Elena was still bound by a prenuptial agreement she had signed before the wedding.
Naomi placed the document on her desk and smiled.
“There’s one problem,” she said.
Elena studied the signature.
It was not hers.

The Vales had forged one final document.
And that forgery would transfer the last piece of their empire into Elena’s hands.
