Chapter 3 – The Devil She Didn't Expect

Three days later...

Sable entered the charity gala wearing a borrowed black evening dress.

No one recognized the waitress.

That was the point.

An earpiece rested beneath her hair.

Dante's calm voice echoed softly.

"Table twelve."

She smiled politely as she served champagne.

Senator Malcolm Rhodes accepted his glass.

His assistant slipped a flash drive beneath a napkin.

The exchange lasted less than two seconds.

Enough.

"I have it," Sable whispered.

"Leave."

She turned.

Too late.

One of the senator's security men blocked her path.

"Miss..."

His eyes narrowed.

"I've seen you before."

The ballroom music continued.

Guests laughed.

No one noticed danger moving through the crowd.

The guard reached for her wrist.

Before he touched her—

Dante appeared.

Not running.

Not angry.

Simply standing beside her.

"She's with me."

The guard hesitated.

Everyone in the room recognized Dante Vega.

No one argued.

As they walked toward the exit, Sable finally understood something.

People feared Dante because he could destroy lives.

But the people hunting them...

Enjoyed destroying innocent ones.

Outside, rain began falling.

Dante handed her the flash drive.

"You kept your promise."

"So did you."

He looked at her.

"No."

"This is only the beginning."
