Chapter 1: The FBI Finds the Truth

Chapter 1: The FBI Finds the Truth

The ambulance reached Georgetown University Hospital in less than eight minutes.

Doctors were already waiting.

Emma Lawson was rushed directly into emergency surgery.

Outside the operating room, Officer Daniel Reyes remained covered in her blood.

He refused to leave.

Not until he knew whether she—and her unborn son—would survive.

At 10:18 p.m., FBI Special Agent Olivia Grant arrived at the Federal Justice Building.

She had been called because any major incident involving classified government personnel automatically triggered federal review.

At first, everyone believed it was mechanical failure.

Until the elevator maintenance chief spoke.

"Something doesn't make sense."

He pointed toward the emergency control cabinet.

"The communication cables were cut."

Grant looked up sharply.

"Cut?"

"Not damaged."

He swallowed.

"Cut with professional tools."

Her expression hardened.

"What about the backup emergency line?"

The technician opened another access panel.

Silence filled the lobby.

"The backup transmitter has been removed."

"Removed?"

He nodded.

"It didn't fail."

"Someone took it."

Grant slowly turned toward Elevator Three.

Then she noticed something else.

Fresh scratches surrounded the access lock.

Someone had entered the maintenance compartment recently.

Without authorization.

She immediately ordered the area sealed.

"No one touches this elevator."

"Treat it like a crime scene."

Within an hour, FBI forensic technicians flooded the building.

Fingerprint powder covered every panel.

Security cameras were seized.

Maintenance records disappeared into evidence bags.

At 2:47 a.m., the forensic report arrived.

Agent Grant read it twice.

Then a third time.

The elevator's emergency brake had been partially disabled.

Not enough to cause total freefall.

Just enough to create repeated violent drops.

Enough to kill someone...

Or force premature labor.

She slowly closed the report.

"This wasn't sabotage."

Another agent looked at her.

"What do you mean?"

Grant's voice became almost emotionless.

"It was engineered."

"They wanted her alive."

"But they wanted the baby to die."

The room fell silent.

Meanwhile...

Emma finally regained consciousness.

Machines surrounded her.

Pain radiated through every inch of her body.

She instinctively reached toward her stomach.

Her eyes filled with panic.

A nurse gently caught her hand.

"Easy."

Emma could barely speak.

"My son..."

The nurse smiled softly.

"He's alive."

Emma broke into tears.

"But he's very early."

"He'll need time."

Relief washed over her.

Then she whispered something that made the nurse freeze.

"They knew..."

The nurse leaned closer.

"Who?"

May you like

Emma stared at the ceiling.

"They knew I was taking Elevator Three."
