Chapter 5: The Family She Tried to Destroy

DNA testing confirmed the impossible.
Emma was Daniel's biological daughter.
The hospital had secretly transferred the infant after the crash because of a catastrophic records mix-up, and the error was later hidden to avoid public scandal. Emma had grown up in foster care, never knowing who her real family was.
Victoria had never known Emma's true identity.
She had targeted her simply because she believed Daniel treated the young housemaid with unusual kindness.
The irony was devastating.
In trying to destroy Emma, Victoria had nearly destroyed Daniel's own daughter.
Victoria was convicted of fraud, evidence tampering, and multiple financial crimes. The investigations also cleared the names of every former employee she had framed over the years.
Daniel established a compensation fund for each innocent worker and publicly apologized for the failures that happened under his roof.
Emma accepted the restitution but declined to move into the mansion.
"My boys already have a home," she said gently. "What they need now is a grandfather, not another mansion."
Daniel smiled through tears.
Every weekend, he visited Emma and his grandsons.
They built the family they had lost decades earlier—not through wealth, but through trust.
Months later, as the old mansion was being renovated, workers discovered one final hidden compartment behind the original security room wall.
Inside sat a sealed envelope addressed in unfamiliar handwriting.
"To Emma... if you ever discover who your father really is, read this before trusting anyone."
Daniel and Emma exchanged uneasy glances.
