Chapter 4: An Unexpected Reunion
Months later, Ethan arrived at another Vance hotel during another unannounced inspection.
As he entered the lobby, he recognized someone immediately.
Patricia.
She wasn't behind a reception desk anymore.
She was sitting quietly in the café across the street wearing a supermarket uniform during her lunch break.
She noticed Ethan.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
Finally, she walked over.
"I don't expect forgiveness."
Ethan remained silent.
She continued.
"Losing my job wasn't the hardest part."
"What was?"
"I realized... I had become someone who measured people by appearances."
She glanced toward Lily.
"I've spent months trying to become someone my own daughter can respect."
Ethan studied her face.
The arrogance was gone.
Only humility remained.
"I hope you succeed," he said quietly.
Then he extended his hand.
She shook it with tears in her eyes.
