Chapter 3: Sarah's Garden

On the third anniversary of Sarah's passing, Ethan and Lily visited the botanical garden where Ethan had proposed years earlier.

The bruised airport roses had been replaced with fresh white lilies—Sarah's favorite flower.

Lily carefully placed them beneath a stone bench engraved with Sarah's name.

"Daddy..."

Ethan knelt beside her.

"Yes?"

"I don't cry every day anymore."

He gently squeezed her hand.

"Neither do I."

"Does that mean we're forgetting Mommy?"

Ethan shook his head.

"No."

He pointed toward the flowers.

"Grief changes."

"It doesn't disappear."

Lily smiled softly.

"I still tell Bunny about her every night."

Ethan looked toward the sky.

May you like

"So do I."

For the first time since Sarah's death, his heart felt less heavy than grateful.
